Bayreuther Festspiele
When the so-called interval musicians step onto the balcony of the Festspielhaus for the first time fifteen minutes before the start and play a specially composed fanfare, then you know: curtain up for the Bayreuth Festival! Richard Wagner’s Festspielhaus was built on the Green Hill between 1872 and 1875. It is only performed in every year from July 25th to August 28th and is a spectacular building for most visitors. This is entirely intentional, as Richard Wagner wanted it to be functional rather than ostentatious, following the ancient model of an amphitheater. The rows of seats rise evenly and - in addition to the outstanding acoustics due to the wooden construction of the auditorium and the orchestra pit, which is up to 12 meters deep - also provide an ideal view from almost all seats.

Bayreuth Baroque
Immerse yourself in the courtly magic of the Baroque! The special atmosphere of the European capital Brussels quickly captivates visitors - sights such as the Atomium, the Manneken Pis or the beautiful Grand’Place are naturally part of the must-see programme. Numerous museums, pretty cafés and restaurants in picturesque alleys invite you to stroll and enjoy. In addition to the classics French fries, beer and waffles, the sweet culinary focus is mainly on chocolates, because Brussels’ maîtres-chocolatiers create true works of art with their chocolate creations.

But not only the culture of pleasure, also the culture of opera has a long tradition in Brussels: commissioned in 1695 by the banker Gio Paolo Bombarda, the magnificent building was badly damaged by a devastating fire in the middle of the 19th century. Rebuilt by the Belgian architect J. Poelaert, "La Monnaie" is still one of the most beautiful theatres in Europe.
Concert and orchestra evenings take place in the cultural centre Palais des beaux-arts de Bruxelles (Bozar), a building complex built in Art Nouveau style at the request of King Albert I and his wife Elisabeth and inaugurated in 1928. You can reach the concert hall in less than 10 minutes on foot and the opera La Monnaie in five minutes.

Budapest, the “pearl on the Danube”, meanders along both sides of the river and divides into the flat plague and the somewhat hilly Buda. Visitors will find all the important sights on the banks of the Danube - the famous Gellért Hotel with thermal bath, the castle hill with royal castle, the university or the rocky Gellért hill with statue of liberty and citadel. In the south of Pest, the Palace of Arts was built in 2005, which houses the Museum of Modern Art with works by Pablo Picasso and Andy Warhol as well as the Bela Bartók Concert Hall, which has since made a name for itself with its excellent acoustics.
The Hungarian State Opera from the 19th century continues a long opera tradition to this day.

Cradle of design and sustainability, Copenhagen is known for its canals, its colorful neighborhoods, its green spaces and its castles including the famous Rosenborg and Christiansborg which are among the attractions of the Danish capital.

Musically, less than 20 years ago the city acquired a new Opera House, an architectural and acoustic marvel that we owe to the genius of Henning Larsen. Combined with the still active historic scene and DR Koncerthuset, Copenhagen’s musical offering is rich and varied.

Experience the magnificent Semper Opera House, a former court opera house with a long musical tradition. It is one of the cultural landmarks of Dresden, with which the new baroque old town can adorn itself. Atmospheric concerts are also held just a few steps away in the beautiful domed building of the Frauenkirche and in the simple but excellent concert hall of the Kulturpalast, home of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra. All three venues are located in the heart of Dresden, which, thanks to extensive reconstruction, once again fascinates its visitors as a total work of art!

The traditional New Year’s Eve concerts of the Sächsische Staatskapelle are already firmly anchored in the programme. Karina Cannelakis and Fatma Said will ensure the best musical enjoyment.

Just outside Stockholm, music lovers will find a real gem: the Slottstheater Drottningholm, one of the best-preserved baroque theaters in Europe. It is located on the grounds of Drottningholm Palace - still the residence of the Swedish royal family today - and was built by the architect Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz for the Swedish Queen Luise Ulrike of Prussia as a successor to a theater that burned down in 1762. The original stage technology has been preserved and the theater has a unique collection of 30 stage sets.

Enjoy this unique backdrop for baroque masterpieces and explore the proud capital city of Stockholm on long summer evenings, nestled in the picturesque and unique archipelago with its almost 30,000 islands and rocks. In Dublin, it performs in the Victorian Gaiety Theatre and in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre, which opened in 2010 and is the largest theatre in the country with a good 2,100 seats.

This cultural and music city that has always had an essential place in the florentin artistic life, its temple is today the Teatro Comunale and the Festival of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino that was created in 1933 by Vittorio Gui to become immediately one the greatest music festivals of the world.

Situated on the banks of the River Main, Frankfurt is a city of contrasts: on the one hand, the highly modern and fast-paced financial district, on the other hand, cozy restaurants and apple vine yards in some almost rural districts. The city of J. W. von Goethe’s cultural life does not need to be hidden too. It is home to well-known museums such as the “Schirn” Kunsthalle, the “Städel” and the Museum of Modern Art. The Alte Oper, designed in neo-Renaissance style, is primarily used as a concert hall and contrasts with the New Opera House. We have many images of this city in our heads: vibrant port city, port of call for many cruise ships, pesto and foccacia as culinary highlights; and not forgetting its proud past as “la superba”, the proud, eternal rival of Venice on the world’s oceans.
Quite wrongly, the Ligurian city is simply forgotten by most travelers to Italy. Genoa has the largest contiguous old town in Europe, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and anyone strolling through the “caruggi”, the winding alleyways of the centro storico, will be drawn to the countless palazzi and churches. Numerous museums and, above all, the Teatro Carlo Fenice contribute to the city’s cultural wealth. Located centrally, the Teatro, inaugurated in 1828, enjoys an excellent reputation. It was largely destroyed by a bombing raid in 1944 - but the reconstruction was a success: The magnificent old façade on the outside and a tastefully modern auditorium on the inside that seats 2000 people. Enjoy a few carefree days by the sea, which is omnipresent in this special, fortunately sometimes forgotten city, so that it is comparatively not (yet) overcrowded.

Glyndebourne is second to none! By the time the champagne corks pop in the festival’s beautiful gardens during the interval, you’ll agree. Since its inception, performances have begun in the afternoon, as the extended interval picnic has become a tradition. The audience itself gives the legendary private opera on Lord Christie’s estate the stylish, noble Glyndebourne Festival cult status and celebrates the British way of life with fine food and champagne. For up to 1 ½ hours, guests dine nonchalantly in tuxedos and evening gowns in the picturesque park, a unique atmosphere in the heart of the county of East Sussex, where the opera intermission becomes part of the production.

The “Pearl of the North” is lovingly called it, because it has always been unique and cosmopolitan, proud and at the same time always preserving its composure. A typical harbour town, commercial Hanseatic and even likeable in rainy weather. Because Hamburg, the Free and Hanseatic City, is made of the elements wind and water. Freedom has always been more important to the citizens than the Hanseatic League, and Hamburg has remained a city-state to this day.
Hamburg is a young, pulsating metropolis, the high quality of life is reflected everywhere, and culture and music are fortunately also part of everyday life: be it through the Elbphilharmonie, which is now entering its third season, no longer needs to be described; be it through the venerable, beautiful Laeiszhalle or through the Hamburg State Opera, which has been firmly anchored in German music theatre life since its foundation in 1678. Thanks to its rich heritage as the birthplace and workplace of many important composers, classical music is deeply rooted in Leipzig. Last but not least, the proud citizenship of the prosperous trade fair and trading city also contributed to this: The opera - at that time still located in a building on Am Brühl - looks back on a history of over 300 years and is thus considered one of the oldest bourgeois musical theatre stages. The “Great Musical Concerts” in the Gewandhaus, founded in 1743, are still an integral part of every concert season of the orchestra of the same name, which performs in the New Gewandhaus - incidentally the only new concert hall built in the era of the former GDR - as well as in the Opera House and St Thomas’ Church.

In summer, the imposing Olavinlinna moated castle in the middle of the idyllic lake district is transformed into a musical fairytale castle: the opera festival in the middle of the Finnish expanse, first held in 1912, has established itself as the country’s leading cultural event with more than 60,000 visitors a year. In 2025, Olavinlinna Castle, the northernmost medieval fortress in the world, will be 550 years old. To mark the occasion, performances from several decades will be staged in the anniversary year, including Mussorgsky’s “Boris Godunov”, Verdi’s “Macbeth” and Puccini’s “Turandot”. In 2025, Puccini's incomparable melodies will once again be heard in the place that the Italian composer chose as his favorite location: Torre del Lago. Even during his lifetime, he envisioned a festival with which he could immortalize himself and his music. It was here, on the picturesque Lago di Massaciuccoli, that his personal favorite “Madama Butterfly” premiered in 1904 and it was also here that he settled down, moving into a magnificent Art Nouveau villa, which today houses the “Villa Puccini” museum and where he went bird hunting in his free time. “Sunny beaches, fresh pine forests, an always calm lake - a true Eden!” - this idyll near the Tyrrhenian Sea sent Giacomo Puccini into raptures. After spending almost 30 years of his life in Torre del Lago, he also found his final resting place here.
Thanks to the Puccini Festival, we can now be very close to the master in the place close to his heart. The festival venue is within easy reach of both the elegant seaside resort of Viareggio and the appealing cultural city of Lucca. The choice is not easy, both options have proven themselves and have their charm. Intoxicate yourself with the passionate “Tosca”, thrill to the cruel “Turandot”, fall in love with the flighty “Manon Lescaut” and suffer with the desperate “Madama Butterfly”. Or would you prefer to meet the graceful “Mimì” in “La Bohème”? Everything is possible at Lago di Massaciuccoli.

For several centuries, the present-day Piedmontese capital was the seat of the royal house of Savoy and the capital of the kingdom of the same name; numerous castles in and around Turin bear witness to this stately past. In the 19th century, the city became the centre of Italy’s national movement (Risorgimento), which led to the unification of Italy in 1861. At the beginning of the 20th century, the city was strongly influenced by the Fiat Group. Today, Turin presents itself as an elegant and well-kept residential city with French-inspired architecture, inviting collonades, posh coffee houses and a lively cultural life. In 1997, the residences of the Royal House of Savoy were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Turin has a tradition of chocolate making, so be sure to enjoy tempting hazelnut nougat (gianduja), coffee creations such as the "bicerin" and other culinary delights.The Teatro Regio was built by Benedetto Alfieri in Piazza Castello in the city centre; it opened in 1740. The highlight of a very eventful history was certainly the premiere of Puccini’s "La Bohème" under Arturo Toscanini in 1896. After a fire and decades of closure, the Teatro Regio finally celebrated its reopening in 1973 and has since enriched the musical repertoire of northern Italy.
